Southwest Greens Australia Launches Multi-City Expansion to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane

Leading Australasian installer of residential synthetic putting greens and lawns launches an ambitious multi-city expansion in response to increasing demand for premium-level synthetic golf green and lawns.

April, 2007: Southwest Greens Australia Pty Ltd, the Australasian franchisee of the leading American supplier and installer of synthetic golf greens and lawns, announces the concurrent launch of regional offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Adding to the previously established offices in Perth and Auckland, New Zealand, this ambitious multi-city launch is in response to a significant increase in demand for premium-level, professional quality synthetic turf products throughout the Australasian region.

With over 6,000 residential golf greens installed worldwide, Southwest Greens is considered the industry leader in the supply and installation of golf and putting greens for home and commercial use. With a recent installation of a synthetic backyard golf green for leading Australian professional Nick O’Hern, and previous installations at the homes of Australian golf professionals Geoff Ogilvy, John Sendon and Steve Allan, Southwest Greens adds to their impressive client list that contains over 25 of the world’s top 100 PGA Tour players, including Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia, Hale Irwin, Mark Calcavecchia, Tim Clark, Fred Funk, Lee Jansen, David Toms, Corey Pavin, Chris DiMarco and Justin Rose.

Why Go Synthetic?

With the prolonged drought in most of Australia, the synthetic turf industry has been on an extreme upswing in the last decade, as more home owners and home builders are turning to synthetic surfaces for a number of reasons. Firstly, natural turf is difficult to grow in hot and dry climates such as Australia. Secondly, water conservation is becoming critical; the use of synthetic turf is assisting home owners to conserve water, while also allowing golf courses, football ovals, and other sporting facilities to provide a lush, safe, green, drought-friendly alternative to players and the public. Finally, natural turf requires extreme levels of maintenance to look good; Homeowners and golf courses must spend large amounts of money on water, fertilizers, pesticides, chemicals, mowing and general maintenance in order to maintain their natural turf or golf greens.

Better than ever

The advance of technology has improved synthetic turf dramatically over the past 5 years. Advancements in product backing, fibre length and aesthetics, as well as new synthetic materials are drawing more attention from homeowners. One of Southwest Greens’ synthetic lawn products --EnvyLawn from Challenger Industries -- is a prime example of these technological advancements. EnvyLawn is manufactured with a Duraflo backing that allows full drainage; important for homeowners with pets, and for high rainfall areas. The product comes in different fibre lengths and is manufactured to exactly replicate the look of natural rye, bermuda or bluegrass.

Beyond improvements to synthetic lawn products, there have also been advances in synthetic golf green design and installation technology. Southwest Greens’ golf green product is regarded as one of the only synthetic golf surfaces that truly replicates the look, feel and action of a real golf green. Whether a player is practicing their putting stroke, chipping onto the green from across the yard, or practising a bump-and-run from the fringe, the ball’s reaction will be the same as if it were landing on a real grass green. Players can thus work purely on the mechanics of their stroke, without having to make adjustments or allowances for the putting surface itself. In addition, there have been numerous improvements to the installation methods and products used to install synthetic putting greens and lawns which have resulted in improved look and longevity of the product. And for golfers who crave a truly unique and specialised golf green, Southwest Greens has teamed up with Nicklaus Design to provide golfers with a professionally-designed, one-of-a-kind backyard golf facility. So whether it is a backyard lawn, a play area for the pets and kids, landscaping or a putting green for practice, a low maintenance, water conversation-friendly synthetic grass has more advantages than ever.
